Yalitici özellikleri nedeniyle, özellikle 19 yüzyilda insaat malzemesi, su borulari ve elektrikli aletlerde yaygin olarak kullanilan, doğal olarak ortaya çikan lifli silikatlardır.Asbestos doğada üç ayri biçimde bulunur. Beyaz (chrysotile), mavi (crocidolite) ve kahverengi (amosite).
MESOTHELIOMA NE KADAR SÜREDE ORTAYA ÇIKAR?
İngiltere deki Newcastle Üniversitesi araştırmacıları, asbest etkisinde kalanlarda bu kanser türünün 30 ila 40 yıl arasında oluşabildiğini saptadılar.
MESOTHELIOMA NIN FARKI?
Erkeklerde kadınlara göre beş kat daha fazla görülen bu kanser türü, sigaranın yol açtığı akciğer kanserinden farklı olarak, akciğerin dışında oluşmaktadır.
BELİRTİLERİ
Hastalığın kendini belli eden spesifik semptom ya da bulgusu yoktur. En sık saptanan semptomlar nefes darlığı ve göğüs ağrısıdır. Nefes darlığı erken evrede masif efüzyona bağlı iken ileri evrede tümörün akciğeri çepeçevre sarmasına bağlıdır. Hastalarda semptom başlangıcından ilk başvuruya kadar geçen süre birkaç haftadan 8 aya kadar değişmekle birlikte genellikle 3 aydır.
TEDAVİ ŞEKLİ
Radyoterapi ve Kemoterapiye cevap oranı yüksek değildir..
Mesothelioma tedavisinde halen kullanılan ilaçlar ömrü 6 ila 8 ay uzatabilmektedir.Ancak Pemetrexed ve Carboplatin ilaçlarından oluşan yeni kombinasyonun ise ömrü 13-14 aya kadar uzatabilmektedir.
